All international students are required to have health insurance. To waive the Student Health Insurance Plan, your private health insurance plan must meet the following requirements:
Minimum levels of health insurance coverage must provide:
- medical benefits of at least $100,000 per illness or accident
- deductible not to exceed $500 per accident or illness
- expenses associated with medical evacuation in the amount of $50,000
- repatriation of remains in the event of death in the amount of $25,000
- Coverage of pre-existing conditions after a reasonable waiting period
- Co-payments that do not exceed 25 percent.
To qualify for a waiver, one of the following must be true:
- You are a sponsored student with health insurance through your scholarship program that meets or exceeds the requirements from The California State University Chancellor’s Office for international student health insurance.
- You are a visiting student from a partner institution and that institution is purchasing a group policy for all students that meets or exceeds the requirements from the Department of State (J-1) and The California State University Chancellor’s Office for international student health insurance (F-1).
