Waiver

If you do not want the Student Health Insurance Plan, you must decline or opt-out of coverage by submitting a waiver. You may only opt-out of coverage during the following Waiver Periods:

Fall - 07/25/2024 - 09/19/2024

Spring/Summer - 12/05/2024 - 02/25/2025

Summer - 05/30/2025 - 06/09/2025

All international students are required to have health insurance.  To waive the Student Health Insurance Plan, your private health insurance plan must meet the following requirements:

Minimum levels of health insurance coverage must provide:

  1. medical benefits of at least $100,000 per illness or accident
  2. deductible not to exceed $500 per accident or illness
  3. expenses associated with medical evacuation in the amount of $50,000
  4. repatriation of remains in the event of death in the amount of $25,000
  5. Coverage of pre-existing conditions after a reasonable waiting period
  6. Co-payments that do not exceed 25 percent.

 

To qualify for a waiver, one of the following must be true:

  • You are a sponsored student with health insurance through your scholarship program that meets or exceeds the requirements from The California State University Chancellor’s Office for international student health insurance.
  • You are a visiting student from a partner institution and that institution is purchasing a group policy for all students that meets or exceeds the requirements from the Department of State (J-1) and The California State University Chancellor’s Office for international student health insurance (F-1).
